Money on Fire

Rather than to have your money go up in smoke....

Get your appraisal done free of charge by the Santa Clara County Assessor's Office.

Dear Tammy,

It's tax time! What is the real taxable amount of your property value?

If you believe that the market value as of January 1, 2009 is less than the taxable amount shown on your "Notification of Assessed Value" postcard - take the following steps to get resolution.

County Assessor's Office
Property Tax

An Application for a reduced assessment

must be filed between July 2 and September 16, 2009, with the Clerk of the Board, County Government Center, 70 West Hedding Street, East Wing, Tenth Floor, San Jose, CA 95110.

Applications may be obtained by calling the Clerk at (408)299-5001. Their office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Or go to:
http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/cob. The clerk will send a notice of the scheduled hearing date. However, your appearance at the hearing may be waived by the Assessment Appeals Board if a written stipulation of value is presented, signed by you or your agent, the Assessor, and the County Legal Officer.

The following information was taken directly from the assessor's website, article dated February 6, 2009:

"While the review has begun, property owners are urged to wait until the Assessor's Office completes the review in late June and sends notification cards to all 460,000 property owners."
